Prescription Sunglass Lens Options

Start with the light conditions and visual tasks that matter most to you. Product availability depends on your prescription, selected lens material and frame compatibility.

01

Solid-Tint Prescription Lenses

A consistent sunglass tint for everyday brightness reduction. Choose from the colors and darkness levels offered with the selected product.

Consider for: everyday outdoor wear and a consistent lens appearance.

02

Polarized Prescription Lenses

Polarization is designed to reduce reflected glare from surfaces such as roads, water and snow—not merely reduce overall brightness.

Consider for: driving, boating and glare-heavy outdoor conditions.

03

Transitions® XTRActive® Polarized

Light-responsive lenses that darken in changing conditions and dynamically polarize outdoors in sunlight. Availability varies by material, design and prescription.

Consider for: changing light and frequent exposure to reflective glare.

04

Progressive Tinted Sunglass Lenses

Progressive prescription correction for distance, intermediate and near viewing combined with an eligible sunglass tint.

Consider for: multifocal wearers who want outdoor vision at multiple distances.

The practical difference

Tinted vs. Polarized Sunglass Lenses

A darker tint and polarization solve different problems. Choose based on where you notice discomfort—not only on lens color.

Feature Solid Tint Polarized XTRActive Polarized
Primary purpose Reduces general brightness Reduces brightness and reflected glare Adapts to light and polarizes outdoors
Lens appearance Consistent selected tint Consistent polarized sun color Changes with light conditions
Strongest use case Everyday sun wear Road, water and snow glare Changing light and outdoor glare
Prescription availability Depends on the exact product, prescription, material and frame.

Important: Lens color alone does not confirm UV protection or polarization. Review the features listed on the individual product.

Balance thickness, weight and durability

Sunglass Lens Materials

The best material depends on your complete prescription, frame size, frame construction and selected sun-lens technology. These ranges are general shopping guidance, not final laboratory approval.

Common questions before ordering

Sunglass Lens Replacement FAQs

Can you replace the lenses in sunglasses I already own?

Yes, in many cases. The frame must be in suitable condition and compatible with the selected prescription lenses. Every submitted frame is reviewed before production.

Can you add prescription lenses to sunglasses purchased elsewhere?

Yes. RenewLens can install prescription sunglass lenses in many compatible new frames purchased online or from another optical retailer.

What is the difference between tinted and polarized lenses?

Tinted lenses primarily reduce brightness. Polarized lenses also reduce reflected glare from surfaces such as roads, water and snow.

Can progressive prescriptions be made as sunglass lenses?

Yes, eligible prescriptions can be made as progressive tinted sunglass lenses, providing distance, intermediate and near correction in one pair.

Can strong prescriptions be made into sunglass lenses?

Many stronger prescriptions are eligible. Suitability depends on the complete prescription, selected material, frame size, frame shape and chosen lens technology.

How much does prescription sunglass lens replacement cost?

RenewLens prescription sunglass lens replacement starts at $115 per pair. Final pricing depends on the prescription, material, tint, polarization and selected upgrades.

How long does the service take, and is shipping included?

Lens production generally takes 3–7 business days after compatible frames and a valid prescription are received. Shipping time is additional, and RenewLens provides free prepaid shipping both ways.
