A windshield blocks much of the ultraviolet light that activates many conventional photochromic lenses. XTRActive products are designed to respond to additional light conditions, so they can darken to some degree behind the windshield.

A dedicated polarized prescription sunglass lens may be the better choice when constant polarization behind the windshield is the main priority.
