Why customers choose this technology

Built for bright light and reflective outdoor glare

XTRActive Polarized combines extra-dark light-adaptive performance with dynamic polarization outdoors. It is designed for wearers who want one prescription pair that responds across indoor, in-car and outdoor conditions.

Dynamic polarization

The polarization level increases as the lenses darken outdoors, helping manage reflected glare in bright sunlight.

Extra-dark outdoors

Designed for wearers who frequently experience very bright outdoor light and want more darkness than an everyday photochromic lens.

Activates in the car

The lenses darken behind a standard windshield, although they are not classified as polarized in the car.

Use your own frames

RenewLens can install eligible single-vision or progressive configurations in many compatible frames you already own.

Accurate performance expectations

How the lenses behave in different environments

The clearest way to understand XTRActive Polarized is to separate darkness from polarization. The lenses respond to light in the car, but their strongest dynamic polarization benefit is outdoors in sunlight.

Indoors

Clear with a hint of tint

The lenses do not activate for darkness or polarization indoors. A slight protective tint may remain, so they are not as colorless indoors as some everyday Transitions options.

In the car

Darkens, but is not classified as polarized

Visible light allows the lenses to darken behind a standard windshield. Because the windshield blocks much of the UV needed for full activation, the lenses are not classified as polarized behind it.

Outdoors

Extra dark and dynamically polarized

As outdoor light becomes more intense, the lenses darken and increase their polarization. The manufacturer reports polarization efficiency of up to 90% outdoors in hot temperatures.

Important: Photochromic performance is influenced by temperature, UV exposure, visible light, lens material and other conditions. Activation and fade-back times are not identical in every environment.

Who should consider this option?

A strong choice for the right light conditions

XTRActive Polarized is a specialized premium option. It is most valuable when bright light and reflective outdoor glare are recurring problems—not simply because it carries the highest feature count.

Consider XTRActive Polarized if you:

  • Frequently spend time in bright outdoor environments.
  • Encounter reflective glare from roads, water, snow or other horizontal surfaces.
  • Want lenses that darken in the car and become dynamically polarized outdoors.
  • Prefer one prescription pair for changing indoor and outdoor light.
  • Want to upgrade compatible frames you already know and like.

Another option may fit better if you:

  • Want the clearest possible indoor appearance; consider GEN S.
  • Need fixed polarization at all times; consider traditional polarized prescription sunglasses.
  • Want extra darkness without polarization; consider regular XTRActive.
  • Need a brand, design, color or material not available for your prescription.
  • Prefer two specialized pairs instead of one light-adaptive pair.

Customer questions

Frequently asked questions

Important details to understand before ordering XTRActive Polarized replacement lenses.

Can Transitions XTRActive Polarized lenses be installed in my existing frames?

Yes, in many cases. Your frames must be in suitable condition and compatible with your prescription, lens design and selected material. RenewLens confirms compatibility before production.

Are XTRActive Polarized lenses polarized indoors?

No. Indoors, the lenses remain clear with a hint of protective tint and are not polarized. Their dynamic polarization increases as the lenses darken outdoors.

Do XTRActive Polarized lenses become polarized in the car?

They darken behind a standard windshield, but the manufacturer states that they are not classified as polarized behind the windshield. Their principal dynamic polarization benefit occurs outdoors in sunlight.

What is the difference between XTRActive Polarized and regular polarized sunglasses?

Traditional polarized sunglasses maintain a fixed dark tint and polarization. XTRActive Polarized lenses are light-adaptive: they are clear with a hint of tint and unpolarized indoors, then darken and become dynamically polarized outdoors.

Are single-vision and progressive options available?

They may be available in both single-vision and progressive designs. Exact availability depends on your prescription, measurements, material, frame and the laboratory’s current product range.

Why do photochromic performance and fade-back time vary?

Photochromic performance is influenced by temperature, UV exposure, visible light, lens material and other conditions. Activation and fade-back will therefore vary by environment.

How long does lens replacement take?

Most RenewLens replacement orders are completed in approximately 3–7 business days after your frames and valid prescription are received. Specialized branded configurations may require additional laboratory time.

Can I send my prescription later?

Yes. Choose “I’ll Send My Prescription Later” during ordering. Production cannot begin until RenewLens receives a valid prescription and any required measurements.
